As time goes by I am slowly starting to forget that I ever had
the condition. I am immensely satisfied with the results. The sweating
in my hands is stopped 100%. I still have nightmares, though, that
the condition has returned. It was two or three times a week at first,
but now it's maybe once a week or less. I am far more confident in
social and professional situations. I'm no longer the shy or reticent
one, hanging back and dreading to be noticed or approached. I can
wear nice clothes without having to wonder if the fabric will withstand
the sweating. I can attend trade shows and conferences where I meet
many people at a time. My church experience is greatly enhanced,
not having to make apologies for the wet hands and such. I can go
on and on. Others have mentioned the change in me, which continues
to manifest over time. I am grateful for the procedure and I cannot
overstate the benefits of having gone through with it. Daniel

CS chest, abdomen, feet, but mild, doesn't bother me.
For anyone contemplating whether or not ETS (Micro-endoscopic
thoracic sympathectomy) surgery is for you, here is a little
of my history.
Many days I just wished my
hands were invisible. My middle school and high school years were
miserable. It was a struggle that few even knew about because,
for the most part, I kept my palmar hyperhidrosis hidden (as best
I could). If you're contemplating this surgery, then one or more
of these scenarios will probably sound familiar.
The first memory
of my super sweaty hands was having to quit piano lessons at an
early age because my fingers left the keys soaking wet. Yuck for
me, the teacher, and the piano.
Something as simple as taking handwritten
notes created dread. I always had to fold up an extra piece of
paper and put under the bottom of my hand where it touched the
page. If not, the ink or pencil would blur or you wouldn't be able
to write on the wet lower portion of the page at all.
I played
on the high school tennis team for four years. I loved tennis BUT
there was no way I could hold onto a racket without wearing a leather
glove to absorb the hand sweat, having my racket grip wrapped in
an absorbent material, and/or keeping a towel court side to dry
my grip between points.
Dating, who wants to hold a cold sweaty
hand? Terrible again. Whenever, I rode in a car, I always held
my hands in front of the air vents to try and keep them dry.
Ever
been to a golf driving range, and the club just flies out of your
wet hands and lands 30 feet in front of you? Yep, me too.
Imagine
if having pockets was a necessity. I always wore a dress or pants
with pockets so I could stick my hands in and dry them off.
When
bowling, I always stood right over the fan at the ball return so
I could keep my hands as dry as possible and not fling the ball
backwards.
When shooting a game of pool, I loved those big chalk
blocks! That's the only way I could play, by coating my hands in
chalk powder.
My mom took me to a physician in high school who
said it was just nerves. I knew better, because I could be home
watching TV and eating snacks with sweaty palms. Why would I
be nervous about that?
As life goes on...
RESULTS MAY VARY FROM PERSON TO
PERSON.
I got married with a washcloth wrapped around my bouquet of flowers
as I walked down the aisle so my hands wouldn't drip water and
my wedding gown would stay dry.
At any type of party or social
gathering, I always walked around with a beverage full of ice AND
a napkin wrapped around it. This way I could try to dry my hands,
and if I had to shake hands maybe they would appear cold because
of the ice on the sweaty glass.
Ever tried to hold a friend's baby
or even your own with sweaty hands and then hand them to someone
who says "oh, I think
they have wet their clothes and need a diaper change". No,
sorry, that was from my sweaty hands.
Going to church, I kept a paper towel in my bible so I
could dry my hands during the service. The worse part of all, when
the pastor would ask us to stand up and shake hands with someone
near us and welcome them. Ugh! If you didn't it was rude, if you
did it was embarrassing.
I made it through radiology school by
constantly drying my hands. Do you know what happens to x-ray film
when you touch it with wet hands. Not good. Films stick together
and it leaves a mark that could interfere with interpretation by
a radiologist. Once my instructor told me, you can't have wet hands.
Well duh, I get it. Luckily today, most film based departments
are digital.
Afterwards, I got a job in healthcare
and had to wear latex gloves often (to give injections or sterile
situations, etc). I tried to use medical gloves that had kind of
a tight wrist or even had a powder in them because if I ever held
my hand up above my head - a stream of water would just run down
my arm. I wish I had a photo or a video because I could literally
take off these latex gloves and pour the water out of them.
Even
if I was able to keep my hands dry, they were usually freezing
cold. Do you know how many times I've been told, "Wow, your hands are ice cold"? I would
just smile and say "That means I have a really warm heart".
Well, today
I have warm hands AND a warm heart. Ironically, on Valentines Day,
February 14 of 2000 I flew to Houston, TX and had ETS Surgery performed
by Dr. David Nielson.
I ran across this procedure on the internet
after following several forums and doing a lot of research. At
that time, there weren't but a handful of physicians in the US
even performing this surgery. I remember my mom asking that I please
not do this because it was so new but I was ready for a change.
I was put to sleep with wet hands and when I woke up they were
dry and have been dry ever since. Life changing! I became a different
person, more confident, more outgoing, less stress, less anxiety,
my career grew, and my relationships grew. Dr. Nielson's office
was great, the same day surgery was quick and you show up the next
morning for a follow-up visit before boarding a flight and heading
back home. My chest was a little sore and I couldn't laugh but
that certainly didn't keep me from smiling.
It's not just me, ETS
has been a miracle for others as well. As I was looking through
my notes before writing this, I ran across an email that I received
in July of 2000. I have no idea who these folks are but the wife
(not named for privacy reasons) had written me a thank you letter.
She writes "I hold you
responsible for us finding Dr. Nielson. I hold you responsible for my new husband,
I could go on and on about the ways he has changed, the ways his life has changed,
but I won't because I'm sure you feel the exact same way. What I'm trying to
say is thank you, thank you for my new husband".
In full disclosure, I do
have slight compensatory sweating but I'll take that any day.
My feet sweat some (not bad), but who shakes feet? And I'll occasionally
have some sweating on my chest or abdomen, not bad at all. Knowing
what I know now, would I do it again? Absolutely, without a shadow
of a doubt. Life is great! Larissa (Texas)

Very happy with the results because 0% sweating in hands. My neck
does not produce sweat. I believe my face does not produce sweat.
The sweat shifted itself lower below breast like under bra, sometimes
upper stomach area. But only when I'm very hot or when I'm drying
my hair with HAIR DRYER for whatever reason. It does not bug
me. I do not think of it as compensatory sweating. I have NO
regrets having surgery. I would recommend it to all patients.
I was very scared to do the surgery and now I am so happy that
I want to encourage others to have it. I am healthy, ETS only
helped me become healthier. They can call me ANY TIME. Will be
more than happy to share my story. THANK YOU DR. NIELSON and

August 2015 1 Year Follow Up Condition(s) Treated /Comments: Hyperhidrosis
of the hands. CS of back and legs - moderately severe.
I have struggled with palmer and plantar hyperhidrosis for most
of my life that I remember. My parents tell me that when I was
young they sought after any treatment to help me since I was so
negatively affected by this condition. At that time there were
no real answers except for risky invasive surgery which is not
the path my parents wanted to take with me since this was not a
life threatening condition. Hyperhidrosis affected every aspect
of my life negatively and I found that most people didn’t really
understand the condition or how it affects every aspect of your
life. It was something I thought about every second of every day
and with every personal encounter I made. In school (Elementary
through College) I found that I had to come up with ways to prevent
my papers and assignments from being wet, smeared or tearing due
to my hands sweating. Even interacting with people and friends
was difficult due to wet hands and not wantin g to touch others
or hold hands due to the wetness of my hands and the responses
I always would get. I found myself making excuses not to touch
people, shake or hold hands and if I had to, I would always make
up an excuse as to why my hands were wet (“I just washed my hands”).
I always left a trail of water on anything I touched. I learned
to deal with innocent looks and comments from others as to why
things were wet after I had held or touched them. It was embarrassing
which I found only intensified the condition. I graduated with
my Bachelor degree in Nursing and became a pediatric RN. Hyperhidrosis
made my career choice extremely difficult since most of it involves
use of your hands and touching people. It was difficult to find
ways to deal with my condition and still have the touch that the
patients I cared for needed not to mention the increased difficulty
of having to do certain nursing procedures with “wet” hands. I
came up with many different ways of doing things and disguising
the “wetness” but this consumed every thought of each day. After
many years (about 35) I finally decided that I should swallow my
embarrassment of the condition and seek again for some help. I
researched all I could find about the condition and any treatment
I could find to help me. In the meantime I went to a dermatologist
who prescribed an anti cholinergic, which helped a little bit but
had horrible side effects that I couldn’t live with any more. In
my continued search I came across Dr. Nielson’s website multiple
times which answered all the questions and concerns I had been
dealing with my whole life. It was very comprehensive and user
friendly. It was the answer I had been looking for so many years.
He was a doctor who had dedicated his career developing a surgical
procedure to help with this condition and had done over thousands
of this procedure on patients. As I continued to research this
condition and his website, things continued to fall into place
that this was the doctor and the procedure that would finally help
me. I called my mom to tell her about Dr. Nielson, and ironically
it turned out that she knew his parents well. That gave me the
confidence to call his office and speak with them about the micro
ETS surgery. Dr. Nielson’s staff could not have been more accommodating
and understanding and helpful with answering all of my questions,
which I had many. The phone consult with Dr. Nielson I had prior
to deciding to have the surgery put me at ease as he answered all
my questions and gave me all the time I needed to talk with him.
I could feel that he cared and understood the negative aspects
this condition has on people’s lives. His office staff was most
helpful and accommodating with helping me to make arrangements
to come to San Antonio as I was coming from out of state for the
procedure. The pre-op, surgery and post-op could not have been
smoother. The outcome of the surgery was immediate as my hands
were dry upon awakening from the surgery. The surgery itself was
very easy to recover from with very minimal downtime or pain. The
post op clinic visit was just the same with Dr. Nielson giving
me his personal attention and time to answer every detail or question
I had. The question I keep asking myself now is “Why didn’t I do
this sooner”? My life is so much better now without the constant
worry of wet hands! It is so much easier to do every day things
without having to look for alternate ways to accomplish such simple
things. It definitely has been a life changer for the better. I
almost feel like I am a happier, more easy going person now that
a major stressor has been relieved from my life with the micro
ETS surgery. As I look back on the micro ETS surgery I can say
with confidence “It was all worth it and more” thanks to Dr. Nielson
and his staff. - Suzanne (Utah)

My life changed dramatically in different ways, social and physically. Before
I wouldn't have the desire to go out in public or meet new friends. I was also

It's
impossible to describe how much my life has changed, and for the
positive. I never understood what it would be like to hold hands
with someone comfortably or to write notes without having the pen
slide out of my fingers. I can finally wear makeup without having
it ruined before I even leave the house, and I can blow dry my
hair knowing that sweat won't come pouring out of my head and neck
to ruin it. ETS has been nothing short of life-changing. - Frances

To Whom It May Concern,
Very much for the better. I look forward to attending social events
and shaking peoples hands, whereas before surgery I was miserable
at social events due to hand sweating. I now eagerly search out
training classes and seminars to attend related to my job. While
attending meetings, I no longer sit in fear of having to meet people
and shake their hands or sit through meetings fearing having to
shake hands with people when the meeting is over. I can now relax
and focus on the meetings content. Life has been great since ETS!
My only regret is not having ETS sooner. Thank you Dr. Nielson

9 Year Follow Up Condition(s) Treated: Hyperhidrosis of hands, feet,
face, Facial Blushing
Hi Dr. Neilson,
I had ETS surgery with you 9 years ago. So far this surgery has
been a huge success. I do experience Gustatory sweating which I
am considering treating with Botulinum Toxin injections, but my main question
is about compensatory sweating. I suffered with this quite severely
the first few years after the surgery, but it appears to have resolved
itself and if I have it now, it's very mild. - Keri

Every aspect of my life has improved since having Micro ETS. Everything
I explained in my previous follow-up is still true. I am so happy

I am able to preform procedures in the hospital that I was unable to becasue
of slipping or not being able to put gloves on. I am more confident when I go

of course made it worse). I am able to write more easily when taking an exam.

I will now step out and do. I have always had a pretty outspoken
personality and loved meeting people but now I have nothing to
hold me back! I am more confident and participate in more group

Six Month Follow Up
I had the Micro ETS procedure performed by Dr. Nielson this past
March! The primary reason for me having ETS was because I suffered
from Hyperhidrosis, extreme sweating of my hands and feet being
the worst. It was a very embarrassing condition. The sweating would
begin for a variety of reasons and sometimes it seemed it began
for no reason at all. I could feel the sensation that I was about
to have "an
episode" coming on and there was nothing I could do about
it. The more I thought about what was happening, the more upset/anxious
I became. The sweating would soon take over my body and the facial
blushing would kick in. The facial blushing I experienced was a
result of being embarrassed about my Hyperhidrosis and not wanting
anyone to find out about my condition.
Hyperhidrosis had taken control of my life and I was not the person
I wanted to be because of it. I had suffered my entire life and
had spent my entire life coming off as shy and/or rude because
I feared what people would say/think if they found out about my
condition, so I didn't talk to people. I avoided meeting people/talking
to people at all costs. In fact, I avoided any situation where
I might have to talk to someone else or attention might be drawn
to me. I had to literally talk myself into even going to the grocery
store, because I was so scared someone would notice my sweaty hands
and make a comment. I had heard comments about my sweaty hands
my entire life and they were so hurtful. I can't tell you the number
of hours I spent crying over my condition and wishing for a "new
life."
I do not know your individual circumstance, but if you also suffer
from Hyperhidrosis, I can give you more detailed examples of what
I went through pre-ETS and the differences post-ETS if you would
like, but I will tell you, Dr. Nielson and ETS changed my life
in the most positive way! Dr. Nielson and ETS gave me the "new
life" I wanted! I am so incredibly thankful I had the procedure. I am able
to live a "normal" life now! The sweating of my hands
is completely gone! I vary rarely have any sweating on my feet
and even when I do, it is very minimal. I do have some compensatory
sweating on my chest and lower back area, but I hesitate to even
label it CS as it only happens when I am in muggy/humid/hot environments,
when it is normal to sweat anyway. I have not had any facial blushing
at all post-ETS.
My life has become so incredibly busy now, because I am constantly
out doing things and getting involved. I am constantly taking my
daughter to story time/ music class/the park, volunteering, attending
social events, etc...all things I would never had done before ETS.
I dreaded going anywhere before ETS. One of the best moments of
being a mom to a almost 1 year old is being able to hold my little
girl close and rock her to sleep. Before ETS, I couldn't do that,
because my hands would leave her clothes soaked. I also love walking
holding her hand. I never held anyone's hand prior to ETS, because
the sweating was so embarrassing. I love that I don’t have to pull
away when she reaches for my hand. Because of Dr. Nielson and the
ETS procedure he performed on me, I have been able to be the person
I always wanted to be. I am able to do whatever I want to do, go
wherever I want to be, and not feel any hesitation or embarrassment.
It feels like a weight I carried my entire life has finally been
lifted. It is the most amazing feeling. I will forever be grateful
for Dr. Nielson and his ETS procedure.
I would advise you to do a lot of research before making the decision
about if you should have Micro ETS, so you know what to expect
and also what the possible risks are. That being said, I also want
to warn you that you will read a lot of very scary stories online.
I scheduled my ETS surgery after many years of research and I almost
canceled at the last minute due to horror stories I read online.
If you are hesitant about any part of the ETS procedure, I would
suggest you write down your questions and talk with Dr. Nielson.
He is wonderful at answering questions completely and honestly.
In fact, Dr. Nielson was great through the entire process. He was
wonderful, as was his staff. I trust Dr. Nielson fully and believe
he is a great doctor and person. I definitely recommend Micro-ETS
by Dr. Nielson! (Kansas Patient)
Dear Dr. David Nielson,
I want to thank you for changing my life with a successful Micro
ETS surgery. Nothing can fully express my gratitude for waht
a blessing you have been to me. Before my surgery two years
ago I was always self-conscious about my hands. I was embarrassed
to ever shake hands with anyone, and I was never really confident
to be around people. Ever since my surgery, my hands have stayed
dry, and I absolutely love it! My whole life has been turned
around of this amazing experience. My family has seen an immense
change in me and I have seen it too. I am more cheery, confident,
and positive now. I owe all of this to you and your dedicated
team.
Thank you again for caring enough to practice medicine that changes
lives for the better. You certainly made an amazing difference
in mine. Sincerely, Callie
Dear Dr Nielson:
I can't sufficiently express my appreciation and eternal gratitude
for having successfully cured my " sweaty hands". After experiencing
an unsuccessful ets surgery with another doctor I was fearful
that this surgery wouldn't be successful. Fortunately I was wrong!!!
Thanks to your ets procedure I am now able to shake hands without
fear & shame.
You have ended a life time of misery and despair & I will never
be able to thank you enough...
Forever grateful, Monica
April 2008 Dr. Nielson & Staff,
Thank you so much for a very successful surgery. Thank you Cheri,

better! I definately haven't had such a pleasant experience in
sugery as this. Sincerely, (Patient)

Dr. Nielson,
I'm sure that you don't remember me, but I wanted to send you another
thank you note. About eight years ago, you performed a thoracic
sympathectomy on me. Prior to that, I had difficulty keeping
hold of a tennis racket, had to literally wipe off a computer keyboard
or piano keys after use, and public events (anything that required
handshaking) were horrible anxiety-filled times.
Since your help, my hands are so much better. I became very tactile
for awhile, for I never knew how soft my dog's ears were. Other
people's hands seem very moist to me, and I've given your information
to two other people. My feet are much improved, but not as
drastic as my hands.
I graduated from KU in 2004 with honors and three Bachelors degrees. My
husband and I have also welcomed a son whom I don't worry about
dropping. The job situation is not so hot, but you can't
fix everything. (smile) You did make a significant and profound
impact on much of my life, and I am appreciative. Thank You! Jessica
Zahn
P.S. You may always use my name for a recommendation.

Dr Nielson:
The ETS surgery is literally an answer to my prayers. When
I was 12 years old I told God that if he cured me I would serve
Him with my hands the rest of my life. Little did I know
that 7 years later He would cure them. I am now studying
nursing and everytime I use my hands I try to do with love and
kindness in remainder of the promise I once made.
I am so thankful for the surgery. I am very happy with the
results and excited about trying new thing that I couldn't do before,
like playing guitar and drawing. Thank you so much. (Patient)
Dr. Nielson,
My hands are in a dreamlike state. They are rediscovering life,
longing to touch every surface, to know every texture as if for
the first time. The life I have lived thus far will be drastically
changed. After eighteen years of hiding and drying and blushing
over my wet, cold, red, purple hands, I can reintroduce my pair
of allies to the world. They will confidently reach out for firm
handshakes; they will fidget and flirt and dance across tabletops
instead of being folded away from sight; they will write without
inhibition; they will stretch out in Christ’s ministry,
uninhibited by selfish anxieties.
As my suddenly beautiful fingers saunter across
the soft keys, without leaving sweaty pools on the spacebar or
mouse pad, they cannot tap quickly enough to express the joy that
now accompanies each caress. Oh to mourn the life I lived—a
life robbed of the passion of which it is capable. Every touch
was filled with hesitation and doubt. I settled for the comfortable,
because not even my curious heart could drive me to the unfamiliar
situations that would entice sweaty palms.
Wet hands changed the way I lived—but not
for the better. They hindered when I needed them to facilitate.
They inconvenienced when I needed them to provide. They hid away
when I needed them to step up to the challenge. My hands not only
made me doubt every movement, they made me doubt myself. They made
me doubt my future.
Every girl dreams of her wedding day. I would
awake with dreams turned to nightmares of him slipping the wedding
band onto a red, swelled, dripping wet finger and quickly changing
his mind. And, though I accepted my hands as my handicap, I dreaded
having to impose my handicap on boyfriends and eventually my husband.
Every hand holding would be soured by my unpleasant touch.
But now my fears have given way to hope. I can
encounter old situations with new confidence. I can fill out a
job application without holding my pen awkwardly to avoid contact
with the dry paper. I can turn in tests with dry ink and blue lines
that do not bleed into one another. I can look through a stack
of photos without fusing their sticky surfaces together with sweat.
I can stand in front of people, knowing their gaze will fall on
my face instead of my beet-red palms. I can meet a new person and
remember their name because my mind is no longer consumed with
what they are thinking of my disgusting hands. I can help people
up from sitting without having to fabricate an excuse and shove
my hands deeper into my pockets. I can dream bigger, knowing my
adversaries have become my allies.
And I have you, Dr. Nielson, to thank for this blessed opportunity.

November 2004
Dear Dr. Nielson and staff:
I would like to thank you Dr. Nielson from the bottom of my heart
for the life-changing ETS surgery you performed on me last year
(8/18/03). Before the surgery I lived a life filled with embarrasment
and suffering due to my sweaty hands. I couldn't remember a time
in my life when my hands were dry and warm. Even in childhood
I remember always hiding my hands and shying away from other kids
when it came time to play. As an adult I was still very shy always
making sure my hangs were not "free" so I wouldn't have
to shake hands and if I did I'd find myself making excuses for
why they were so wet.
Now, all that is part of my past and my life is so much better.
After the surgery I was so shocked to finally have warm, dry hands
that I felt like crying in joy and relief! Thank you Dr. Nielson
for giving me back a "normal" life and helping me come
out of my shell and not be afraid anymore to socialize with people
and shake their hands. You performed a miracle on me and completely
changed my life for the better! May God always bless you and your
kind, wonderful staff! (smile)
P.S. I am continuously amazed by your kind heart and giving nature!
God truly blessed me when he led me to finding you and hearing
about your advanced ETS surgery. I still can't find the right words
to express how grateful I am to you for changing my life!
Thank you once again, (Patient)
Dear Dr. Nielson, Thank you so much for choosing to help people through
the Micro ETS surgery. My hands have never been so dry and I have
noticed a 50% improvement in my feet as well. I could not be more
thrilled with the
results. You, your staff and the facilities you use were a pleasure
to work with and were extremely professional and a wonderful experience.
As I sit here and marvel over my warm, dry hands, I must thank
you for conquering my battle. Please know you were an answer to
countless prayers and i will forever be thankful. God bless you!

Dear Dr. Nielson,
I am sure you receive more thank you letters than you can keep
up with, so I thought that I would add to your collection.
Words cannot express my gratitude
and thankfulness that I feel for the new body and clear mind you
have provided for me. My life has changed in so many large
and small ways but the final result has been more than ever, new
found confidence and happiness. I never thought this would
be a reality for my life. To not have fear and worry constantly
consume my thoughts from the moment I wake until I fall asleep
at night. I really thought that I was alone and losing my
mind. You are so very important to people like me and my
future happiness has been directly linked to you. When I
get married and have children one day, you will be there with me. I
can hold hands with my mate and not worry. Be a "normal" person. That
has been my dream and my future isn't so scary now because of you. I
know there are many (Patient) in your daily life with my condition
but there will only be one David Nielson for many of us. For
that I am blessed, we all are. Thank you again so much. (Patient)
Hello Maxine... Thank you very much for putting me in contact with Sherry
from the insurance dept. I was able to talk with her and she put
my worries at ease and we discussed my repayment options for the
Micro ETS surgery i had done on Aug 18. I just wanted to thank
you, Sherry and all of the staff at Dr. Nielson's office and especially
Dr. Nielson. All of you have changed my life for the better. Now
I can live my life without fearing someone would dare touch my
sweaty hands; now i get excited when people shake my hands and
they
are dry. I have finally taken control of my life again and i owe
it all to you. Thank you again for all of your continued support
and patience with me! :)
Sincerely,
(Patient)
Dr. Nielson, Tomorrow will be three months since my ETS surgery and
I want to let you know how pleased I am with the results! I
fully expected that after the surgery my hands would be warm and
dry. What I didn't expect was that my feet would be dry as
well. After spending 20 years (since I was 15 years of age)
obsessing about how cold and wet my hands were it is hard to believe
that they are so warm and dry. I spend a great deal of time
just looking at my hands and thinking how easy it was to complete
the ETS surgery and the process leading up to the surgery. Dr.
Nielson and his staff were incredibly informed and helpful. I
have to admit that I was a little skeptical that it could be this
easy. After all, I found out about this surgery via the Internet. I
researched other sites, talked to the dermatology department at
Johns Hopkins, even talked to Dr. Nielson's staff many times. Let
me tell you that it was better than I could have ever expected.
As for side effects, they are so minor it is almost not worth mentioning. I
experienced minor pain after the surgery--almost like I had a slight
muscle pull in my rib cage. I never had a need for the pain
killers. It was gone after the second day. I felt like
I was ready for full athletic action after a week (but I kept my
promise not to work out for two weeks so tomorrow will be my first
day back at the gym). I experienced some "phantom" sweating
the first and second day--I was feeling those sensations that meant
my hands were about to start sweating but they remained dry. The
third day I actually did experience some minor rebound sweating--slight
moisture in the left palm and on the fingertips of my right hand. They
literally dried-up the same day. It appears as though my
compensatory sweating is occurring just below my pectoral muscles
on the front and on my back. This is not a big deal. It
only occurs at times when my hands and feet would have been sweating. In
fact, I used to sweat behind the knees and in the groin area and
this is now gone as well.
Again, thank you Dr. Nielson and thank you to the entire staff. The
ETS surgery is a wonderful thing and I would recommend it to anyone
looking to solve their hyperhidrosis and Raynaud's. I would
state that it was 100% effective! Please feel free to use
this email as a testimonial on your website and feel free to use
my name and number as a reference to any others seeking feedback.
Sincerely,
David S. Williamson
Dr. Nielson,
All through my life my hands have stayed wet. No matter what Idid
they would sweat, doctor after doctor they didnt know why. Oh,
the nights I layed and cried through the years it only got worse
sometimes it stop but shortly return of course seeing on tv there
was a cure knowing I couldn't afford it that was for sure praying
to god with my hands in the air the very next week god answered
my prayer this first god, my hands please take this away allow
me to live a normal day little things like petting my cat or
walking the floor not hearing my wet feet go splat typing
a letter with dry hands writing to you to tell you how youve
made my dreams come true i never thought there would come a day
that i would appriciate life in such a new way the grass is now
greener on my side a smile on my face ear to ear wide what a
difference you've made in my life you and your little surgical
knife sent by god you came to me from this prison in my body
you have set me free i may never find a way to truly thank you
but finding you has made my dream come true to walk in the park
holding hands in the dark everything is so wonderful now a day
hasnt passed i havent said wow many days since the surgery i
find myself crying its so wonderful not carry a rag around for
my continual drying wrapping my hands and my feet I'll never
do again i look forward to my new life as now today a new life
begins.

2 years post-ETS anniversary!
A BIG hello to Dr. Nielson, Cheryl, Peggy, Jane & staff! 2 years ago today, I had my ETS for severe HH & mild
blushing. My life has changed so much since the op. I'm out in
the world doing the things I love that were very embarassing to
do when I had HH/blushing.
I've been performing onstage (I'm a classical singer) and I also
serve as an on-call rehearsal accompanist. That is something I
always dreaded doing before ETS because my hands would sweat all
over the piano. I am an AVID (some might say obsessed...LOL) knitter
and I love working with my hands.
At my job, I'm working with clients and can shake hands without
having to swipe them on my pants first or worry about "the
look" when they feel my hands. They're still warm & dry.
I am wearing bright, colourful clothes with confidence.
I'm finally to the point where I don't worry about sweating anymore.
After the op, it takes a while to "retrain your brain" and
quit thinking negatively about sweating. If you've had HH your
whole life, you get into a cycle of worrying about sweating to
the point where you plan your day around hiding it. (How do I get
through this meeting? How can I hide my hands during my interview?,
etc). I don't have to think like that anymore. I have finally stopped
hiding my hands which is something I never realized I did until
I had ETS and didn't have to worry about sweaty hands. I don't
chose my clothes based on what I called "sweat factor" (in
other words, how much sweat is going to show?)
My CS is minimal to none. I rarely get it and when I do it's either
when I work out or in the hot summer months. It's very light so
it's a non-issue for me. I never sweat on my face or hands. My
underarms can sweat a little bit if I don't use antiperspirant.
My feet are dry about 98% of the time.
When I do sweat, it's just a bit of moisture on my back & stomach
(and sometimes thighs when it's really hot outside). Like I said
before, to me it's a non-issue because it's nothing compared to
what life was like with HH.
Just wanted to give you all an update and let you know that I'm
still doing great and life is good. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!
Kindest regards,
(Patient)
(ETS on March 26, 2001)
Dear Dr. Nielson, (Date
of Surgery: April 13, 2001)
A year has passed since my ETS redo surgery and I am now submitting
my one-year follow up after ETS report.
My hands are nice and warm and dry. The only time they get wet
is when I exercise and then I am soaked all over. The difference
now is that when I stop exercising, my hands dry up almost immediately.
The only symptom I am left with since the surgery is the numbness
that I have on my left side which runs from my chest through the
armpit and down the back of my left arm. This is mildly uncomfortable
at times, but not painful. My guess is that a nerve (or nerves)
were disturbed when trying to find the kuntz nerves. However, having
dry hands has been worth this small problem. I just hope this numbness
will not create any problems for me in the future. If you have
any information on this, I would appreciate receiving it.
Overall, I am very happy with the results of my ETS journey. Life
is so much better now. Everything is so much easier to deal with
without the worry of sweaty hands. Having the confidence to step
out more now has also led me to lose 40 pounds since the surgery,
so I feel so much better about myself and am able to enjoy myself
socially.
Even after a year, it is still hard sometimes to believe that my
hands won’t start sweating, but I have placed myself in some
tense situations and my hands have stayed dry—perhaps the
occasional clamminess, but never wet.
So, I am happy to send you this positive report, and I want to
thank you again for what you have done for me. I am truly grateful.
Please feel free to use me as a referral for anyone considering
ETS surgery.
May God bless you as you continue in your work.
Sincerely,(Patient)
Dear Dr. Nielson,
I am so glad I had this done (Micro ETS). I am a totally different
person. Now I have confidence. I actually want to go up and shake
people's hands.
Thank you so much.
(Patient)
Hi Dr. Nielson,
I have been meaning to write and say hi. I hope you are doing very
well. Ironically enough (I was planning on emailing you anyway
today) on the "Today Show" they aired a segment on
hyperhydrosis. A doctor from Dallas, Texas as well as one of
his patients appeared on the show. The doctor was explaining
the same surgical procedure you performed on me, except he performs
it slightly differently. As my grandmother and I were watching
the show, I leaned over to her and told her how much better you
are then the doctor on the show. Instead of only leaving one
incision mark near each underarm as yoiu do Dr. Nielson, this
doctor from Dallas makes three incision marks under each breast!!!
I couldn't believe it. Anyway...I just wanted to let you know
Dr. Nielson how grateful I am for what you did for me.
The woman on the "Today Show" was explaining how embarrassing
such a condition can be. It is so interesting to hear how others
have the same frustrations with palmar hyperhydrosis as
I did. But I must admit, I was excited when I was watching the
show because I was blessed enough to have already had the operation
and been cured. You are a wonderful doctor.
I hope both you and your family have a very Happy Holiday Season
and a very Merry Christmas. Thank you Dr. Nielson.
Sincerely, (Patient)
Dr. Nielson,
I am in the office today and decided to follow up on the ETS operation
I had in April of 1998. I have not done much follow up since
I had my operation.
At the time I had just turned 16, I'm now 21 and everyday I wake
up-- I still feel like I am in a dream! As I was reading other
people's testimonies I got teary eyed because so many people are
able to have the joy of life as I do now. Dr. Neilson changed my
life!
I will be graduating the University of Georgia with a Bachelor
of Social Work in May 2004. I will be dealing with people everyday
in my chosen profession. Without this surgery I doubt would have
had the confidence to do all the things I have done since the operation.
Thank you so much for giving me a "normal" life.

Dr Nielson,
This surgery (micro ets) has changed my life for the best! I no
longer have to worry about sweaty Hands (one and 1/2 years after
micro ets surgery).(Patient)
